How Insecurity will escalate the food crisis in 2023
Numerous signs are showing that food inflation may worsen in 2023. The problem of insecurity issues in states where food grains are cultivated in commercial quantities has become a primary need for concern. The largest producer of high-demand crops such as maize, Kaduna has witnessed continuous attacks peaking with attacks on the Kaduna International Airport and the tragic Abuja-Kaduna train in March.
The build-up to the 2023 general elections has incited widespread insecurity fueled by politicking. It would, in turn, aggravate the state of food production, food scarcity, and inflation as most farming communities could suffer displacement or inability to access their farmlands.
According to displacement.org, Insecurity caused by violence in the north-central and northwest regions has left 586,000 people internally displaced.
However, suggestions such as encouraging farming activities in other states as well as the recruitment of youths as vigilante groups have been considered to mitigate the current crisis and hopefully avert the predictions of worsening food inflation and shortage in Nigeria come 2023

The Flying Framer using drones to revolutionize agriculture in Africa
Femi Adekoya, also known as the flying farmer, is revolutionizing Nigeria’s agriculture by giving drone-powered solutions to commercial and smallholder farmers. Drone monitoring identifies issues that are not visible to the naked eyes, which will help the farmer make informed decisions for the crop. It is also used for precision farming and efficient spraying of weed controls or fertilizer to optimize field management.

Swiss-Ghanaian start-up business Koa has confirmed gaining USD 10M growth capital towards building what is believed to be Africa’s largest pulp processing plant based on upcycling cocoa fruit, writes Neill Barston. The company, which recently attended the ISM event in Cologne, Germany, showcasing its series of environmentally friendly juice and chocolate products (see below), has signaled its intention for significant growth.
